Online Portfolios -- Show Off Your Best Work - Professionally
Mike Swift
Printer-Friendly Format

Many landscape professionals and firms have web sites. It is very common for these sites to include portfolios of sample work. The portfolios range from a series of photographs of various project sites to organized collections of photographs organized by project or type of work.

An online portfolio should show the breadth of your work, the scale of projects you have completed, your process and your best results. Unfortunately, many portfolios that have great sample pictures are lacking some very important components.

If a portfolio is extensive, it should be organized to make it easy to find relevant samples. If sample work is organized by commercial versus residential, entryway versus backyard, etc. it makes it easy for clients to find material they are interested in viewing. However, you don't want to over organize to the point that the client has to drill through multiple choices to get to your samples. No more that one or two layers of organization. Remember that you want to show your best work and make it easy to find and view.
